Readme File: ------------------------------------ QuickTime 5 gives you a new features: ----------------------------------- - MPEG 1 Local and Streaming playback - New User Interface for QuickTime Player on Mac OS 9 and Windows - Flash 4 - Cubic VR - MP support for H.263 and DV video compressors - Higher quality DV decompress - More choices for Connection Speed in the Control Panel - Public broadcasting APIs - New music synthesizer - More reliable Streaming (when used with QuickTime Streaming Server 3) ------------------------ Known Problems and Issues: -------------------------- - A new version of Sorenson Broadcaster is required to work with this build of QuickTime. Apple and Sorenson are working to address this. - Some uses of the TunePlayer and SetNoteChannel calls will cease to work with this release - this is a known issue that will be addressed shortly. - The new music synthesizer employs a different memory allocation strategy than the previous one and developers should test their usage of this - particularly with games, etc - within their stated or expected memory requirements of their users and report any problems or un- expected difference to Apple. ---------------------------- Windows System Requirements: ---------------------------- QuickTime 5 Public Preview runs on Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows Millenium Edition (aka Windows Me), Windows NT, and Windows 2000, and requires an Intel Pentium or compatible processor. 32 MB of RAM, Sound Blaster or compatible sound card and speakers is required. DirectX version 3.0 or later is recommended. ------------------------------ Macintosh System Requirements: ------------------------------ QuickTime 5 Public Preview requires a PowerPC CPU or later running Mac OS version 7.5.5 or higher, and with Open Transport version 1.2 or higher. In addition, the computer must have at least 32 MB of RAM. Note that this Public Preview release does not support Mac OS X Beta, except when running in Classic.
