The new Animation action game from Bungie
Oni is a elite agent for the futuristic
Tech Crimes Task Force, as she fights her way across beautiful anime-inspired
cityscapes, unraveling a conspiracy that will lead her into conflict with
her own personal demons. The delayed project from Bungie will be

thereafter.
The third-person action game featuring
a female protagonist, Oni is sure to draw comparisons to a certain grave-robbing
franchise. Konoko is a heroine in this game, she will pressed into
fray against not only a far-flung criminal syndicate, but her own inner
plantoms as well; "Oni," you see, is the Japanese word for ghosts and demons.
Of course, gunplay has not been
shunted into the background, with a variety of powerful slug throwers available
for long distance decimation, from pistols and tasers to a devastating
rocket launcher. This is all made possible by Bungie's advanced interpolated
animation system, which allows Konoko to execute multiple animated sequences
at one time, leading to some extremely tight, responsive control. Although
it was originally developed for the PC market, |
|
Oni's graphics more than live up to
the standards of its fellow PS2 and XBox titles.
The characters are large and well
defined, with detailed texturing and attractive animation character design.
"In keeping with the game's anime setting," explained the Oni producer,
Hamilton Chu, "many of the characters have exaggerated acrobatic skills.
Leaping in the air and doing a somersault while kicking in one direction
and firing in another is commonplace in this world."
As with any third-person game,
there are a few issues with the camera, but with the game only 50% complete,
the system is already more than equal to many titles already on the market.
By using the right dual shock stick for camera and the left for character
control, Bungie has come the closest of any developer to emulating the
hallowed PC mouse and keyboard |

interface. With unique gameplay and
a great look, Oni team promises to be one of the highlights of the first
generation PlayStation 2 and future XBox lineup.
